Animal Intake/Relinquishment

FDRA will take in dogs and cats on a space-available basis from the following situations:

- Animal Control
- Owner Relinquishment
- Stray

All owner-relinquished animals must be current on vaccinations, micro-chipped, heartworm tested negative, on heartworm preventative (dogs), FIV/FELV negative (cats), and altered. If these procedures are not completed, the owner must complete before FDRA will consider taking in the animal or the owner must donate a minimum of $80 to FDRA to help defer costs.

Owners choosing to relinquish their rights to an animal must first show proof of ownership by providing a veterinary receipt, rabies certificate, previous adoption contract, registration papers, etc. Once an owner has relinquished their rights to FDRA, they have seven days to retract their relinquishment in writing. On the eighth day, the described animal is legally owned by FDRA.

When relinquishing the rights to a found or stray animal, the “owner” must donate $40 to FDRA in order to help defer costs.

All vicious-breed dogs (this list includes, but is not limited to, American Staffordshire Terrier/Pit Bull, German Shepard, Chow Chow, Rottweiler, Akita, Dogo Argentino) are accepted (space-available) with a positive temperament test.

FDRA will not accept any animals that have a history of aggression with people.

FDRA reserves the right to accept/deny any animal into the program.

Medical Needs for Animals

FDRA will accept animals with the following conditions:

- Heartworm positive (accepted on a case-by-case basis)
- Parasites
- Broken Limb (accepted on a case by case basis)
- Dental Required
- Chlamydia or Upper Respiratory Infection
- Other medical issues accepted on a case-by-case basis

Adoptions

In general, the FDRA Animal Intake/Foster Coordinator uses the following guidelines when determining the status of an applicant for adoption, with the understanding that if there is a questionable application, the Board of Directors will make the final decision on adoption and may choose to approve applications that fall outside of these general guidelines.
In general, FDRA does not adopt animals to:

- Outdoor-only homes
- Homes in which other animals are not current on vaccinations
- Homes that have previously given away an animal
- Homes that have small children (dogs under 15 lbs. full grown)

In addition, FDRA does not do third-party adoptions (animals as gifts, etc.).

All adoptions for vicious breeds (listed above) must agree to attend a minimum of six (6) obedience classes with the trainer of the organization’s choice.

Adoption fees are as follows:

- Dogs: $105
- Cats: $95

Foster Homes

In general, FDRA uses the following requirements when selecting appropriate foster homes for their animals. Because the relationship with foster homes and the organization is so vital, the Board of Directors will make the final decision on foster homes and may choose to approve a foster home that does not fall within the general requirements.

All foster homes

- must keep foster animals inside or indoor/outdoor. If foster animal will
be indoor/outdoor, foster home must have a fenced-in area to keep animal safe.
- bring foster animal (or have arrangements made for foster animal to attend) all scheduled adoption events for the organization
- not foster more than three adult animals of the same species
- not foster for another organization at the same time that they are fostering for FDRA.
- fill out an application and contract, which releases the organization from any and all damages and liability.

FDRA will cover expenses for all of the following for foster animals:

- Medical treatment/procedures
- Heartworm preventative
